A community of Bangalore residents bonded by their passion for food has formed, recognizing the power of food to unite individuals. In a city known for its diverse dining options, food enthusiasts are coming together to share not only meals but also forge lasting friendships. The Dastarkhwan Club, a local food community, organizes vibrant meet-ups where members explore various food joints in the city. Co-founder Akash Devaraju emphasizes that the community's connections transcend food preferences, encompassing a diverse array of interests rooted in a shared love for food. Tharini Thakur, another member, notes the group's curiosity about the origins and cultural significance of different foods, characterizing the community as a fusion of varied interests unified by their passion for food. The club, which began with a small group, has now grown to include over 60 members in their WhatsApp group and hundreds more on their event waitlist. Explaining the communal bond that forms over shared meals, Akash recalls the initial inspiration for the community during an Iftaar meal with friends, leading them to organize regular gatherings due to the positive energy created by their shared food experiences. The community's name, Dastarkhwan, was derived from a meaningful moment during one of their outings. Abhishek Gupta, a member active in various local communities, appreciates the personal and engaging nature of the Dastarkhwan Club events, emphasizing the communal experience of cooking and sharing meals as a unique learning opportunity akin to delving into history through taste."Visiting someone's home in Kashmir provided valuable cultural insights and unique experiences," he explains. Meghna, another member, agrees, saying, "I appreciate the effort put into curating each event and having a knowledgeable host from the specific culture present to guide us." Community dining experiences include Rozana, where restaurant owners share culinary histories, Safarnama food walks exploring local cuisines, and Mehfil gatherings where hosts open their homes to showcase their culture.
